The Year Covid19 Changed the World
2020 has been a year of significant change. In March 2020 the UK did not know what was going to happen as it headed into lockdown due to Covid19. Everywhere was closed and the country ground to a halt.
This impacted me and my plans for how I was to develop and changed my view and outlook dramatically in the months that were to come.
What did we learn?
As a small business owner & consultant I noticed major changes on consumer buying habits overnight with some clients seeing huge gains and some seeing drops in revenue.
I learnt that many of the things we take for granted like simply going into a shop and just buying everyday groceries became impossible with shoppers clearing the shelves in panic.
Large retailers switched their business models to increase capacity for their online shopping channels and saw their e-commerce businesses grow.
Family time and working from home became the new normal and I believe this is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Google Trends Data
Google Trends highlights on the left some of the terms that are being searched for online now.
The above graphic shows search terms on google grew by more than 5000% because they show as breakout. This really shows you how much customers have adapted to buying online and are searching for delivery slots. From the data and search term ‘Online Shopping’ you can see it is mainly food / retail operation businesses that have gained the most.
